Pixel owners are getting an exclusive Spotlight Story on Isle of Dogs, the upcoming Wes Anderson film which launches on March 23. The new experience will be available to Pixel owners, meaning anyone with a Pixel, Pixel XL, Pixel 2, or Pixel 2 XL, to go behind the scenes in virtual reality of the film, check out different scenes, and look around all in an immersive view. Users will only need to pop their Pixel into a Daydream headset and open up the Google Spotlight Stories app to watch the experience, which is available starting today for anyone interested.
Not quite your average Spotlight Story, Isle of Dogs Behind The Scenes lets viewers literally go behind the scenes of the set and engage with interviews of the film’s cast, including Bill Murray, Tilda Swinton, and Scarlett Johansson among others. While viewers basically interview the cast the film crew will be working around the set in the background to help make the whole experience feel more immersive like the viewer is actually on the set conducting these interviews.
While this new experience is exclusive to Pixel and Pixel 2 phones, it’s not exclusive to Daydream View headsets. It can be viewed with a Cardboard viewer as well, and it can just as easily be watched without a headset or the viewer by playing directly on the phone’s display and just turning the phone around to see the different angles of the content as it was shot in 360-degrees. This is obviously the least immersive way to view it, but should you lack a compatible headset you won’t be left out, Google simply highlights that the experience is likely to be most enjoyable with a Daydream headset on your face as you can be hands-free and the headset can help block out light and other visual surroundings. Those who don’t mind waiting a little bit longer will be able to view the Isle of Dogs Behind The Scenes VR experience through the YouTube VR app via the FOX Searchlight YouTube channel. What’s more is that any platform which access to YouTube VR will be able to view the experience, which means PlayStation VR owners will be able to watch too.
