The Google Pixel and Pixel XL owners experienced microphone-related issues, and it seems like a class action lawsuit has been filed against Google because of it, well, kind of. According to a report by the Fast Company, plaintiffs allege that microphones in the Google Pixel and Pixel XL were defective from the start, that Google knew what it was doing when it included such microphones into the first-gen Pixel devices, in other words, that the company sold defective phones on purpose.
Google had acknowledged microphone issues back in March last year, when one of the company’s employees said that there is a hairline crack in the solder connection on the audio codec, and that microphone-related issues can come and go, depending on the temperature of the phone or the way it is being held. Later on, Google also said that faulty microphones are the source of such issues, in addition to the soldering problem. The company also added that less than 1-percent of Pixel and Pixel XL handsets were affected by such issues, though some of those units actually had issues with all three of its microphones. Interestingly enough, two plaintiffs which are named in this lawsuit never returned their Pixel devices to be fixed or replaced. All in all, this is just a beginning of a lawsuit, and it remains to be seen if Google will take it to court, or will the company settle before anything happens.
Unfortunately for the Mountain View giant, this is not the only problem they had to face when it comes to its Pixel phones, as the Pixel 2 XL units have been in the spotlight after they got announced due to screen-related issues, and later on the Pixel 2 units joined the fold as well. Pixel 2 smartphones also had burn-in issues, well, some units, according to earlier reports. Muted microphones were also mentioned in some reports, so Google really did get a fair share of negative publicity when it comes to its Pixel smartphones. That is more or less it, it remains to be seen if Google will respond to this lawsuit, which as the ‘Class Action’ status, in the near future.
