The security solutions experts at Reolink have now officially launched the second-generation of the company’s Reolink Argus line – appropriately dubbed the Argus 2. Alongside the new camera, the company also announced a Reolink Solar Panel, which can be used to provide a more constant power source to the camera via micro USB. That’s being made available because unlike many other security cameras on the market, Reolink Argus 2 is intended to operate completely wire-free and ordinarily runs off of battery power. Meanwhile, despite a veritable wealth of features and functionality, both products fall near the lower end of the cost spectrum for their respective tech segment. Reolink Argus 2 is available as of this writing for just $129.99 and the associated solar panel can be purchased for just $29.99.
With regard to the features of the new Argus 2 cameras, Reolink has gone well above its previous offering. For starters, and as mentioned above, the camera is intended to be run with no wiring needed at all. That, in turn, means there are very few steps to follow to get the camera set up. Meanwhile, the cameras are also weatherproofed and meant to be used either indoors or outdoors, completely independently. While the company does offer other security systems, Argus 2 can work without the extra hassle of setting up a dedicated monitoring station and DVR – whether a user has one camera or several. Cameras are monitored via smartphone, which makes remote monitoring possible and allows consumers to get the most out of the built-in 2-way audio functionality. Recording happens via microSD or on the smartphone itself and can be triggered by Argus 2’s rapid-responding PIR motion sensors to save on space or deliver event alerts. Smartphone connectivity also allows for push notifications, email alerts or remote siren activation or triggering. Finally, video can be recorded at up to 1080p Full HD and the lens used by the company for Argus 2 shoots at a full 130° wide viewing angle. Moreover, nighttime capture at up to 33 feet from the cameras is possible thanks to what Reolink calls Starlight Night Vision.
The cost of Reolink’s new products also includes shipping fees when bought directly from the company and will come with a 2-year warranty in case something goes wrong. That’s a pretty good deal for wireless security cameras that bring such a wide array of features.
