According to a new report that surfaced online, the Nokia 8 Sirocco may arrive during this year’s Mobile World Congress (MWC) in Barcelona. The Nokia 8 Sirocco was first mentioned last month, when that name was found during a teardown of Nokia’s camera application. In any case, the source claims that the Nokia TA-1005, which was certified by the FCC recently, is not the Nokia 9, but the Nokia 8 Sirocco, even though there’s no proof of that as of yet, so it’s speculation more than anything else.
Now, aside from the name, details on the upcoming handset are scarce, though there’s a chance that this will be an upgraded variant of the Nokia 8, which means that the device may look identical to the regular Nokia 8 variants. According to some rumors shared by mobielkopen.net, the Nokia 8 Sirocco may actually sport a 5.5-inch OLED display, unlike the Nokia 8, which comes with a 5.3-inch IPS LCD panel. That site also claims that the phone will be fueled by the same SoC as the Nokia 8, the Snapdragon 835, while a 3,250mAh non-removable battery will be included in the package as well. 13 and 12-megapixel shooters have also been mentioned in this rumor, along with a 5-megapixel front-facing snapper. The Nokia 8 Sirocco will, allegedly, ship with 128GB of native storage, and sport 6GB of RAM on the inside. Now, if this info is to be believed, the Nokia 8 Sirocco will be an upgraded variant of the Nokia 8, and the company’s new flagship smartphone, though truth be told, it would be a rather odd time for Nokia to release a new Snapdragon 835-powered handset, as the Snapdragon 845 had been launched already, and a number of companies will announce Snapdragon 845-powered devices soon, some of them even during the Mobile World Congress this year, companies like Sony and Samsung, amongst others.
The Nokia 9 had been rumored for a long time, and HMD is definitely planning to introduce something at this year’s Mobile World Congress, several handsets are expected, actually, so we’ll just have to wait and see what’s coming, but launching a Snapdragon 845-powered handset makes far more sense than repackaging the Nokia 8 and including the Snapdragon 835 on the inside.
