The Samsung Galaxy S9’s design is being shown off in AR 3D models. Samsung’s plan was to reportedly allow users to scan the backs of their badges at the Unpacked press conference happening on February 25, and doing so would let attendees “hold” a Galaxy S9 in their hands in Augmented Reality so they could see what the phone looks like when holding it. This is still likely going to be the plan, but it wasn’t intended to be available until the event began and likely after Samsung had officially unveiled the Galaxy S9 and Galaxy S9 Plus. However, the Unpacked 2018 application has reportedly been decompiled and the 3D models of the phone were found inside. It’s not actually possible to scan anything yet though, and this is likely a feature that only attendees of Unpacked will have access to, at least initially.
Based on the images which can be seen below the phone can be turned around in your hands to view the phone from all sides and angles just as if you were holding the real phone in your hands physically, and although the design of the Galaxy S9 has been seen from the front and back as well as the sides, it hasn’t really been shown from the top and bottom, at least not in any press renders, or in this case in 3D models that are coming straight from Samsung.
Just as expected the phone will have a 3.5mm audio port on the bottom next to the USB Type-C charging port, a bottom-firing speaker in addition to the earpiece which will act as a secondary speaker for stereo sound, and like all the previous leaks it shows a single rear camera with the fingerprint sensor right below it. The AR feature in the app lets you cycle through the phone in all four of the colors that Samsung is going to be releasing for the phone, which includes Midnight Black, Lilac Purple, Coral Blue, and Titanium Gray. Samsung will officially announce the Galaxy S9 and Galaxy S9 Plus on February 25 during its press conference at Mobile World Congress, at which point it should talk more about features, specs, and possibly the release date and pricing, though leaks have already surfaced suggesting that the phones will launch around March 23, and cost around $750 and $850 USD respectively.
