Samsung has been including ‘Over the Horizon’ ringtone on its smartphones since 2011, and the company has just released a new version which will be available on the upcoming Galaxy S9 and Galaxy S9 Plus smartphones. This new version of the ringtone was revealed via YouTube, and Samsung partnered up with Icelandic composer, Pétur Jónsson, in order to make this new ringtone a reality.
Now, considering that each rendition of the company’s ringtone is called ‘Over the Horizon’, that may be a bit confusing for some of you. Well, every year, Samsung partners up with a different artist in order to create a new version of its signature sound, and this time around, the company says that the arrangement will take listeners ‘on an atmospheric journey of discovery’. Pétur Jónsson’s arrangement starts with soft tones of a single piano, while new instruments are being gradually included as well. The sound gradually rises to a crescendo, before it melts away completely. In the video that has been published by Samsung, you will not only see the artist himself, playing on a piano, but also a ton of landscapes capture in Iceland. Mr. Jónsson’s piece is quite soothing, for the most part, and yet recognizable at the same time, as the core ‘Over the Horizon’ melody has been included in there. A ringtone based on this arrangement will be included on both the Galaxy S9 and Galaxy S9 Plus, and well be able to check it out in about a week, as the company will announce both of those devices on February 25.
Thanks to rumors and leaks that have surfaced over the last couple of weeks, we have a pretty good idea as to what to expect from the Galaxy S9 and Galaxy S9 Plus. Both smartphones will be made out of metal and glass, just like their predecessors. The Galaxy S9 is expected to sport a single camera on the back, while its ‘Plus’ sibling will come with a dual camera setup on the back. The Galaxy S9 is expected to ship with 4GB of RAM, while the ‘Plus’ iteration of the company’s flagship will pack in 6GB of RAM. Two SoC variants of these two phones will be announced, the Snapdragon 845 and Exynos 9810 variants, while high-end specs will be included in both devices, of course.
