Samsung has recently patented a wireless charging dock with an integrated cooling fan according to a new set of documents that were discovered over at the World Intellectual Property Organization. The diagrams in the documents show drawings of a car mount/dock that can be used in the vehicle for holding the smartphone that would also double as a charging dock to charge the phones wirelessly so it wouldn’t require plugging the phone in, which is not necessarily anything new in terms of products that have been offered before, but the cooling fan is a new touch for consumers to seemingly look forward to.
Though it isn’t stated anywhere in the patent documents, it’s suspected that this may be a new wireless charging dock that Samsung is planning to launch alongside the Galaxy S9 and Galaxy S9 Plus, though not necessarily at the same time as it could release it as an accessory that is meant for those two phones but with a launch date that comes up later.
The patent documents describe this car phone mount as a wireless charging device that has at least one hole in the part of the unit that attaches to the bracket, with a fan that is “arranged” adjacent to the coil unit, with visible holes that would face towards the back of the phone to let the air from the fan travel through to the back of the device to help with the temperature decrease. That isn’t very descriptive but it does paint a picture of what Samsung is trying to do here, and it’s likely that its goal is to provide a wireless charging car phone mount that will be able to keep the phone from getting too warm during the charging process. Based on some of the diagrams in the documents the mount will have the usual extendable arms which can account for larger phones, allowing this mount to be versatile and made to fit multiple devices and not just the Galaxy S9 and Galaxy S9 Plus. If Samsung’s intention is to release this in conjunction with the Galaxy S9 and the Galaxy S9 Plus, then it would be the latest accessory out of a few that the company plans to launch for the phones, including the new DeX Pad that is designed to be replacing the DeX Dock that launched alongside last year’s Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8 Plus.
