Back in October last year, Huawei had introduced three flagship phablets, the Huawei Mate 10, Mate 10 Pro and PORSCHE DESIGN Mate 10. Having said that, the Mate 10 Pro and PORSCHE DESIGN Mate 10 are completely identical in terms of specs, and their design is also identical, aside from a different paint job and Porsche’s logo on the PORSCHE DESIGN Mate 10 variant. That being said, we’re here to take a closer look at the differences between the Huawei Mate 10 and Mate 10 Pro, mainly their spec differences, as the two phones are quite similar in terms of the design, with a couple of obvious differences, read on.
Now, both the Huawei Mate 10 and Mate 10 Pro are made out of metal and glass, back sides of these two smartphones look identical, save for one difference, the Huawei Mate 10 does not sport a fingerprint scanner back there, its fingerprint scanner lies below the display. The fact that the fingerprint scanner is placed below the display of the Huawei Mate 10 makes it different in terms of the design when you look at it from the front as well, as the Huawei Mate 10 Pro sports the company’s branding down there, instead of the fingerprint sensor. Both phones sport a dual camera setup on the back, and that camera strip which sports a slightly different color than the rest of the back. Both phones sport a slightly curved back side, and both ship with physical keys which are placed on the right.
As far as specs are concerned, these two handsets do have some things in common, but they’re not exactly identical in this regard. Both smartphones are fueled by the same processor, the Kirin 970 64-bit octa-core SoC which comes with the Mali-G72 MP12 GPU, which is Huawei’s most powerful chipset to date. In addition to that, both phones ship with Android 8.0 Oreo out of the box, with the company’s Emotion UI 8.0 skin on top of Google’s operating system. As far as cameras are concerned, that’s also something that these two smartphones have in common, they both sport the very same dual camera setup on the back, 20-megapixel (f/1.6 aperture, 27mm lens) and 12-megapixel (f/1.6 aperture, 27mm lens, OIS) shooters with Leica lenses are placed on the back of both of these smartphones, and the same can be said for an 8-megapixel front-facing camera. A dual-LED, dual tone flash is also available on the back side of both smartphones, while both of these phones ship with stereo speakers (32-bit) and Bluetooth 4.2.Both devices come in both single and (hybrid) dual SIM variants, while both sport HDR10-compliant displays, though those displays are quite different, that’s something we’ll talk about in a minute. Both devices do support 4G LTE connectivity, of course, in case you were wondering.
That’s pretty much where the similarities between the two phones end. The Huawei Mate 10 comes with a 5.9-inch QHD (2560 x 1440) IPS LCD display, while the Huawei Mate 10 Pro sports a 6-inch fullHD+ AMOLED display, so not only do the two phones sport different display resolutions and aspect ratio, but completely different display technologies as well. The Huawei Mate 10 is IP53 certified for dust and splash protection, while the Mate 10 Pro sports a more useful IP67 certification for water and dust resistance. A microSD expansion is available in the Huawei Mate 10, but the same cannot be said for the Mate 10 Pro. Speaking of which, the Huawei Mate 10 comes with 4GB of RAM and 64GB of internal storage, while the Mate 10 Pro is available in both 4GB and 6GB RAM variants, and those two models come with 64GB and 128GB of native storage, respectively.
The Huawei Mate 10 does sport a 3.5mm headphone jack, which cannot be said for its ‘Pro’ sibling. The Huawei Mate 10 Pro is lighter than the Mate 10, as it weighs 178 grams, compared to 186 grams of the Mate 10. The Mate 10 Pro is also a bit thinner (7.9mm compared to 8.2mm), narrower (74.5mm compared to 77.8mm) and taller (154.2mm compared to 150.5mm) than the Huawei Mate 10. The Huawei Mate 10 was announced in Mocha Brown, Black, Pink Gold, and Champagne Gold color variants, while its sibling comes in Midnight Blue, Mocha Brown, Pink Gold and Titanium Gray color options. Those are pretty much all the (major) differences between the two phones.
