T-Mobile Product Marketing official Desmond Smith is back with his series of extreme smartphone unboxing videos but is doing things a bit differently for Samsung’s Galaxy S9 and Galaxy S9 Plus. While the setting of his latest unboxing is still unconventional, it’s far less adrenaline-inducing than the environments featured in previous installments of his long-running series, with the industry veteran opting to unbox the Galaxy S9 lineup on the “moon,” i.e. in front of a green screen. The new video that can be seen below still makes for a curious viewing and one that highlights all of the major features of Samsung’s newest Android-powered mobile devices.
Announced just several hours back, the Galaxy S9 and Galaxy S9 Plus mostly improve on their predecessors in terms of performance and software features while largely retaining the Infinity Display-centered look of the 2017 handsets. The models planned to be sold in North America and China are powered by the Qualcomm-made Snapdragon 845, whereas those set to be released in other parts of the world will feature Samsung’s own Exynos 9810 system-on-chip. The base models of both phablets come with 64GB of internal flash memory officially expandable via a microSD card slot by up to 400GB, though the actual maximum is likely 2TB, except no microSD cards larger than 400GB are currently available for purchase. The Galaxy S9 has a 5.8-inch Super AMOLED display with a QHD+ resolution and 4GB of RAM, whereas its larger counterpart boasts a 6.2-inch screen and 6GB of RAM.
The main camera of the Galaxy S9 is of the 12-megapixel variety and comes with a variable-aperture lens that can switch between f/1.5 and f/2.4 f-stops, whereas the Galaxy S9 Plus features that same camera with another 12-megapixel sensor mounted behind a telephoto lens allowing for 2x optical zoom. The front-facing imaging setups of both handsets utilize 8-megapixel sensors and f/1.7 lenses, in addition to supporting a new mode for portrait photography that will blur out the background of your selfies. T-Mobile is opening pre-orders for the Galaxy S9 lineup next Friday and will begin selling the flagships on March 16, with the series starting at $720.
