WyzeCam Launches $20 v2 Smart Home Camera

WyzeCam has launched a $20 v2 smart home camera, called simply the Wyze Cam v2 and it’s already taking pre-orders for the device and plans to ship it in the last week of February, so consumers who are interested in getting smart home security cameras set up without breaking the bank should expect this to start shipping out at the beginning of next week based on the timing that was mentioned.

Some stuff has changed with the Wyze Cam since the first version of the device that was launched, save for the design which is relatively similar because WyzeCam didn’t see a need to switch things up in this department, which likely allowed them to keep the cost low. That said, the finish of the camera has been changed, and is now a matte finish because the aim was to reduce glare on the surface of the device. The Wyze Cam v2 will also still be able to record video at 1080p Full HD resolution.

In regards to the new features, the camera will now provide motion tagging technology which allows it to recognize and outline whenever motion is detected by the camera in both operable modes, which are live stream mode and replay mode. While being able to pick up and alert you to motion inside the home is great, the camera’s motion tagging will help pinpoint exactly where the motion was just in case you weren’t able to see it. It’s also able to see better both in lighter situations, such as daytime, and in darker situations when night vision would be used thanks to a new CMOS sensor inside of the camera. Lastly, the audio has also been improved so there’s less TDD interference, so audio picked up by the camera should be easier to hear and have better clarity. All of the original Wyze Cam’s favorite features have carried over to the new model, including the ability to switch between standard definition and high definition recording resolution when you want to, real-time alerts, two-way audio so you can speak to people through the camera using your smartphone, and the capability to daisy chain up to three cameras together if you have more than one.
