According to a new rumor that surfaced online, the Xiaomi Mi 7 will be announced in June. Xiaomi’s CEO confirmed yesterday that the Mi MIX 2S will launch on March 27, and it will be fueled by the Snapdragon 845, so it makes sense to introduce the Mi 7 a bit later, as they will both be the company’s flagship smartphones. Having that in mind, this rumor may even be accurate, though there’s no way to confirm that just yet.
Now, in addition to the release timeframe, Mocha RQ, a well-known tipster, also shared some spec info for the upcoming phone. He did mention that the Mi 7 will be fueled by the Snapdragon 845 64-bit octa-core processor, just like the Mi MIX 2S, while it will arrive in both 6GB and 8GB RAM variants. The phone will sport some AI features, according to the source, while it will arrive with a ‘vertical camera design’, and we’ll probably see two cameras on the device. A 6-inch display will also be a part of the offering, which is a bit surprising, considering that most rumors suggested that the Mi 7 will sport a 5.5-inch or a 5.7-inch panel. The Xiaomi Mi 6 arrived with a 5.15-inch display, so this is quite a change, if it ends up sporting a 6-inch panel. Truth be said, the Xiaomi Mi 7 will almost certainly ship with a display which will sport an 18:9 aspect ratio, while the phone will also sport considerably thinner bezels than the Mi 6, but still, a 6-inch display is quite large, and it will probably not be a similar size as the Mi 6 if that ends up being the case.
That’s not all, though, the source also mentioned that an in-display fingerprint scanner will not be a part of the offering. The only fingerprint scanner that is currently available, as of writing this article, is Synaptics’ Clear ID unit, which Vivo utilized in the Vivo X20 Plus UD, and which works with OLED panels only. That is more or less all the info that the source shared this time around, and chances are that we’ll see quite a few such rumors before the phone launches. It is also worth noting that the alleged Xiaomi Mi 7 surfaced yesterday, in a somewhat sketchy leak, but who knows, that design may end up being legit.
