A device that’s said to be the Xiaomi Mi MIX 2S leaked online earlier this week, having been depicted in a render that shows a handset with a nearly bezel-less design boasting a screen-to-body ratio of well over 90-percent. The image that can be seen above also suggests the smartphone will feature dual stereo speakers and a USB Type-C port, though it lacks a 3.5mm headphone jack. Xiaomi already embraced the controversial trend of ditching the popular audio port on its bezel-free handsets, with its last high-end offering that missed out on a 3.5mm jack being the Mi MIX 2. The newly uncovered render isn’t perfectly in line with previous depictions of the device, most notably by virtue of the fact it lacks a corner display notch seen in some previous leaks.
While a front-facing camera cannot be seen in the latest render, it will likely be positioned on the handset’s slim bottom bezel, less Xiaomi truly ends up shipping a product with a small notch in its top right corner. The supposed Mi MIX 2S also leaked in a new hands-on video seen below, though the legitimacy of the clip is somewhat dubious, with the position of the power key near the bottom of its left edge suggesting the source may have simply recorded the regular Mi MIX 2 upside down and used some third-party software to flip the orientation of its screen by 180 degrees in an attempt to mislead.
Much like its name suggests, the Mi MIX 2S is rumored to be a revised version of the Mi MIX 2, with recent reports indicating the smartphone will replace the Snapdragon 835 chip found inside its predecessor with the newer and more powerful Snapdragon 845 while retaining 8GB of RAM and a 5.99-inch display panel with an FHD+ resolution of 2,160 by 1,080 pixels amounting to an elongated aspect ratio of 18:9 (2:1). The 12-megapixel camera found on the rear of the previous phablet should be ennobled with the addition of another 12-megapixel sensor on the Mi MIX 2S, whereas the handset is expected to run Android 8.0 Oreo-based MIUI out of the box. The Chinese tech giant is likely to announce its next flagship later this month at MWC 2018 in Barcelona, Spain.
