The settings menu within Android P has undergone a makeover resulting in a far more colorful design and look overall. This seems to be prevalent throughout the settings menu resulting in a heightened visual experience across the board. For example, in Android 8.0 (Oreo), the settings menu is far more neutral when it comes to colors with the bulk of the design making use of blue and black against a white backdrop. In Android P, however, the interface is not just more colorful in general, but utilizes different colors for different icons. Another change to the design is the more rounder (or at least more pronounced rounder) icons, and it is actually the rounder design where the new color scheme originates from – as it is the circles encasing the icons which sport the new colors. Although this has also resulted in the actual icon color changing from dark to light to better contrast agent the colored background.
In addition, it also seems as though some pages within settings are gaining more of a pop-out design. In Oreo, the “About phone” page in settings listed all of the settings on one page and in-view. In contrast, Android P further highlights certain aspects. For example, clicking on “Android version” in the About phone page results in an pop-out action where information related to the Android version is listed against the backdrop of the About phone page. Even here, more emphasis is given to certain aspects like the security patch level – which now appears in blue so it is more clearly visible compared to the rest of the information on the same page.
At present, the full details regarding all of the changes coming with Android P are still largely unknown as it was only this morning when Google made the first developer preview version available – though it is only available to owners of the first and second-generation Pixel phones. Likewise, as this is a previous version – and the first one at that – there is no guarantee any of these changes will remain included when the final and consumer-ready version of Android P is released.
