Two new devices from Samsung’s budget Galaxy J series have appeared on Geekbench revealing their model numbers and other details. The first one bears the model number SM-J337A which is expected to launch as the Galaxy J3 (2018), while the other one carries the model number SM-J337P and should be called Galaxy J3 Pro (2018) at launch. When launched, these two phones are expected to become budget-oriented entrants to Samsung’s Android smartphone portfolio while aiming at the lower end of the spectrum.
Both of them run Android 8.0 (Oreo), feature 2GB of RAM and a quad-core processor from Exynos. The Galaxy J3 (2018) gets the Exynos 7570 processor clocked at 1.43GHz, on the other hand, the Pro variant has a marginally faster Exynos 7885 processor clocked at 1.59GHz. This is a major factor behind the difference between their test scores where the Galaxy J3 (2018) has scored 1,651 points in multi-core test and the Galaxy J3 Pro (2018) scored 1,799 points. Their single-core test score is 604 and 650 points respectively as per the listing. Considering the two devices are a part of Samsung’s J series that serves the budget segment, performance isn’t an aspect these devices are expected to excel at. These benchmark tests were performed a couple of weeks back, on February 23. The South Korean company will reportedly announce an elaborate Galaxy J lineup of smartphones for 2018 with many of them already leaked in the past.
These two devices had also leaked last week with the same model numbers – SM-J337A and SM-J337P. Besides them, the Galaxy J6 and Galaxy J8 for 2018 had also appeared on the same benchmarking tool with the model numbers SM-J600F and SM-J720F respectively. Earlier in February, Samsung had trademarked the names “Galaxy J3 Star” and “Galaxy J7 Star” in the U.S. suggesting their possible arrival in the coming days. As part of the budget lineup, the Galaxy J2 Pro (2018) was announced in Vietnam in January with a price tag of $145. The device sported a 5-inch Super AMOLED display, 2,600mAh battery, and an 8-megapixel rear camera capable of recording 1080p videos, while it came with Android 7.0 Nougat pre-loaded. Samsung’s Galaxy J smartphone series targets the emerging markets where its entry-level devices are the driving force and contribute to the majority of sales.
