Gothic fantasy role-playing game Heir of Light is now available for download on Android smartphones and tablets, being the latest creation authored by GAMEVIL, a South Korean developer-publisher best known for its work on the Zenonia ARPG series. As is the case with many of the company’s games, Heir of Light sends its players on a hopeless mission to save the world, yet it attempts to differentiate itself from other portable RPGs by delivering a much grimmer setting than most mobile gamers are used to. The title features a creature system revolving around five playable “masters” and more than a hundred “servants” whom you’ll be expected to combine in order to be victorious on the battlefield. Besides a lengthy single-player campaign, Heir of Light also comes with a player-versus-player mode which will task you with ranking up on leaderboards in exchange for various rewards.
GAMEVIL designed Heir of Light in a manner reminiscent of some of its earlier games, delivering an open world that can be explored at one’s own pace. Successfully completing the game will require you to return the light to every inch of the land known as Usher, hence the name of the RPG. Extremely challenging boss battles are also said to be part of the package, as are multiple character classes and abilities that players will be expected to combine and create enough synergies between their units to triumph over various grotesque monsters Heir of Light throws at them. As is the case with most other creations from the Seoul-based company’s portfolio, Heir of Light is a free-to-play title with optional in-app purchases and advertisements that can speed up your progress. The game also appears to feature some lightweight Gacha mechanics, not unlike those seen in Nintendo’s Fire Emblem Heroes.
Heir of Light is already available for download in all parts of the world and should be compatible with most handsets and tablets running Android 4.1 Jelly Bean and later versions of Google’s mobile operating system. The only system permission that’s required to play the game is the one that allows it to write on the internal flash memory of your device, whereas you can deny all other requests if you aren’t interested in Heir of Light’s multiplayer component.
