Huawei is said to be in talks right now with Sirin Labs, to form a partnership to create a smartphone that can run Blockchain apps. The operating system would be Sirin OS, but it would still run on Android. So think of Sirin OS as a new skin on top of Android. Both Huawei and Sirin Labs have confirmed that they are in talks, but did not confirm specifically what the talks were about. Leaving is a mystery, though most people can figure it out pretty quickly.
Sirin Labs have met with Huawei numerous times over the past few months, and there is even a picture on Sirin Labs Telegram group chat that reads “amazing meeting just concluded between Sirin Labs and Huawei. Among other things discussed was the possibility of cooperating together to bring blockchain technology to the masses in a secure way.” So it’s basically confirmed that the two companies are working together on a blockchain smartphone, which would be a big deal, seeing as blockchain is a pretty big deal right now, right up there with cryptocurrency. Speaking of cryptocurrency, its market has grown to $350 billion in the past 12 months. However, at this point, everyday use of these cryptocurrency assets is still pretty limited.
Huawei is a great company for Sirin Labs to partner with, seeing as it does have expertise in building smartphones, but also in networks, cyber security, and cloud computing. Huawei has all of the tools that Sirin Labs really needs to make a blockchain smartphone a reality. And actually, Sirin Labs is already working on its own smartphone with blockchain technology built in. The smartphone, dubbed ‘Finney’ is slated to go on sale in the second half of the year, and cost around $1000. So far, Sirin Labs already has pre-orders in for around 25,000 units of the Finney phone, so it’s likely a bit more popular than many people had figured it might be.
