The New York Times has launched a David Bowie AR experience for those who want to take a tour through his “visual legacy” to see things from a completely new perspective. Whether or not you are big on augmented reality technology, if you’re a Bowie fan then this is something you may want to check out, and doing so is rather easy, though you will need a couple of things. First, you’ll want to have the official New York Times app installed on your device, and the second caveat is that your device has to support ARCore if it runs Android. This means devices like the Pixel, Pixel XL, Pixel 2, Pixel 2 XL, Galaxy S8, Galaxy S8 Plus are all compatible, and it should be available for the Galaxy S9 and Galaxy S9 Plus eventually if it isn’t already there.
In regards to what the experience actually contains, it doesn’t appear that everything is mentioned, but there are some details that explain part of what’s on offer. For example, you’ll be able to explore Bowie’s costumes in more detail as you can project them in front of you on the phone display through the augmented reality technology, allowing you to walk around them and check them out up close.
Though there will likely be other things that the experience will afford, it appears that the main focus will be to view the costumes as if they were physically in front of you.
