This week Nuvyyo announced its latest over-the-air (OTA) digital video recorder (DVR) solution, the Tablo DUAL LITE. In spite of this being a newer, and in some respects, a more advanced OTA DVR, the company has confirmed one if its primary selling points is how it is more affordable than its previous options. As the Tablo DUAL LITE will be arriving to market on April 1, priced at $139.99.
Generally speaking, the Tablo DUAL LITE is identical to the company’s Tablo DUAL 64GB model (currently retails for around $219.99) as it sports what is essentially the same design and look overall. So there are no major revisions to the appearance of the device. However, in opting to lower the cost of the new model Nuvyyo has removed the 64GB internal storage offered with the original Tablo DUAL. While this might initially sound like a lesser product due to this change, Nuvyyo explains this move is designed to widen its appeal. As users are now able to connect their own storage solutions to the new model. Effectively, allowing users to select as much or as little storage they want to have access to. For those who do not want to be concerned with additional hardware storage, the company also confirmed the new model supports Nuvyyo’s Tablo Cloud DVR feature which offers up to 40GB of cloud-based storage. This is a feature still in beta although the company does offer a free 30-day trial to see if it is right for the user. Likewise, the service is due to remain free while the beta is in place. Following which the company will confirm exact pricing for those who wish to continue with the cloud-based storage solution.
Another change is the new model features an upgraded Wi-Fi chip designed to improve the quality and speed of Wi-Fi connections. Otherwise, the new model seems to offer an identical user experience to the previous version, including access to two tuners, the same 1080p max video quality, and full compatibility with the company’s Tablo apps for on-the-go recording control as well as the ability to watch content on app-supported devices.
