Samsung Experience App Showcases Galaxy S9 On Other Phones

Samsung released its latest Experience app earlier today, having launched it in the form of a mobile demo meant to showcase the main selling points of the Galaxy S9 and Galaxy S9 Plus on other Android devices. The Seoul-based company already introduced one such app last summer while promoting the Galaxy Note 8, with its new offering being conceptually similar to the previously released service. The “Experience app for Galaxy S9/S9+” only requires permission to access your storage, presumably because the majority of its promotional videos are downloaded on the go and don’t come pre-bundled with the installer.

As was the case with Samsung’s Unpacked event in late February, the main focus of the app is on the imaging capabilities of the new devices, with the South Korean tech giant specifically highlighting the Galaxy S9 lineup’s ability to record super slow-motion videos at 960 frames per second and take advantage of a variable-aperture lens. The app also seeks to advertise the various first-party accessories compatible with the Galaxy S9 and Galaxy S9 Plus, including the new DeX Pad and Wireless Charger, as well as last year’s Gear 360 virtual reality headset. Besides a broad range of promotional videos, the service also includes a number of interactive demos meant to illustrate how using features such as AR Emoji and Live Translation feels like in practice. A detailed sheet of the Galaxy S9’s specifications is also part of the package, as is a list of Samsung’s own apps the company is suggesting to new owners of its flagships. The latest Experience-branded offering is compatible with most smartphones and tablets running Android 6.0 Marshmallow and later versions of Google’s operating system.

The Galaxy S9 and Galaxy S9 Plus are officially available for pre-orders as of last Friday and are planned to be released globally on March 16. As was the case in previous years, consumers who place advanced orders on the handsets may receive them several days before they hit the shelves and while Samsung is offering trade-in deals in numerous markets across the globe, consumers in most countries don’t have access to any other extra incentives such as free microSD cards and similar extra hardware the company has been bundling with its flagship pre-orders in recent times.
