A new rumor has just surfaced, claiming that HMD is preparing to introduce a Nokia flagship which will not sport a display notch, which is something a ton of Chinese smartphones adopted this year. This info comes from one of NPU’s sources, which has seen a prototype of the company’s upcoming flagship handset, and he claims that a display notch will not be a part of the experience.
The source could not confirm when will the phone launch, nor what will it be called in the end, but the Nokia 9 name seems quite possible, as a number of rumors suggested that will be the case. HMD had introduced quite a few Nokia-branded devices during this year’s Mobile World Congress (MWC) in Barcelona, the company had announced five smartphones, none of which are fueled by the Snapdragon 845, Qualcomm’s new flagship SoC. Well, the upcoming Nokia flagship will almost certainly be fueled by that processor, and chances are it will be announced in H2 this year, though nothing has been confirmed just yet. It is also possible that Nokia may opt for a Nokia 8 (2018) name, instead of the Nokia 9, but who knows. The source did not share any info regarding the phone’s design either, nor its spec sheet, so all we can do at this point is guess what to expect.
The Nokia 9, or whatever the company opt to call the phone, will probably ship with thin bezels, the Nokia 7 Plus and Nokia 8 Sirocco suggest that HMD is really doing its best to improve upon the design of its devices, and those two phones also suggest that the Nokia 9 may offer a really interesting design. Other than the Snapdragon 845, the phone will probably ship with a rather large display, and at least 6GB of RAM. Android Oreo will come pre-installed on the device, and since HMD announced that future Nokia devices will be a part of Google’s Android One program, the Nokia 9 will almost certainly ship with stock Android out of the box, which means it will receive fast updates, and you’ll find no bloatware on the device.
