The Xiaomi Mi MIX 2S is finally official, and after the announcement, we got the chance to spend time with the device in person. The Xiaomi Mi MIX 2S is a supercharged version of the phone that was released back in fall of 2017, and while it looks similar visually, it’s a vastly upgraded phone in most ways. Under the hood is a Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 chipset and a choice of three different memory configurations: 6GB of RAM with 64GB of internal storage for around $530, 6GB of RAM with 128GB of internal storage for a bit more, or 8GB of RAM with 256GB of internal storage for around $640.
These are cutting-edge specs and “top-notch design” no matter how you slice it, and it’s all without having to add that silly notch at the top of the screen as many OEMs have chosen to do this year. It sports the same beautiful ceramic body that the Mi MIX and Mi MIX 2 did, and this time around Xiaomi has added in wireless charging to boot. You’ll find a fairly small chin at the bottom and essentially no bezels all the way around the rest of the phone, with that killer earpiece embedded in the top bezel. A new dual-camera module sits on the back with upgraded camera sensors, both of which bring the best pictures and low light performance ever seen from a Xiaomi phone. That’s a big step in the right direction for the Mi MIX family, which has typically featured less than stellar cameras.
Also on board is Android 8.0 Oreo, with MIUI 9.5 running atop. This updated version of MIUI is more than just incremental though, as it brings about full-screen gesture navigation that just feels right on phones with such tiny bezels, and helps bring more of that beautiful 18:9 aspect ratio screen to use without the permanent navigation buttons attached. Google Play Services is also something enabled out of the box, and allows for more proper handling of Google accounts and apps than ever before on a Xiaomi phone. Want to see it in action?
