Vivitek has launched an Android-powered Full HD projector from £499 and the device will come to consumers in the UK in three different colors as of today. Those colors include the Red model you can see up above, as well as models in Black and White. The device is officially called the Q38 and is part of Vivitek’s Qumi line, and will have a range of buttons on it for control of the device and its various functions, such as powering it on, zooming in and out to enlarge or decrease the size of the projection screen, as well as going back or opening up the menu.
Those looking for a semi-affordable Android projector will find plenty of functionality in the Q38 from Vivitek as it’s packed with features like the 1080p resolution even at a screen size of all the way up to 130-inches. The projector is running on Android but Vivitek doesn’t mention whether or not it has access to the Play Store. What it does state is that the Q38 will allow for access to a “preloaded premium app store” for download of apps and games right onto the device. This suggests that it could be the Play Store but it could also be an optimized and customized app store that has only a select number of Android apps which were deemed optimized for a good experience on the projector, such as Hulu, YouTube, Netflix and other similar apps.
The Q38 does come with 8GB of internal storage though only 5GB is usable, but it also supports playing content from a USB stick so if you have local content you’d like to watch you can simply plug in the flash drive. The Q38 also supports mirroring content from other devices and this will work with Android phones and tablets, iOS devices, and even Windows and Mac PCs so you’ll have your pick of how and what to watch. The internal, rechargeable battery will last for up to two hours, which is about long enough to watch one movie unless it runs longer than that, however this is easily counteracted by keeping the device plugged in if you’re able to do so. The Q38 is also said to be fairly lightweight and portable so it should be easy to stuff in a bag and take with you wherever you like. Vivitek doesn’t list which retailers will carry the Q38, though you can probably pick it up from Vivtek’s website.
