Vivo is reportedly planning to launch a new smartphone that will serve as a successor to the X20 that was unveiled in September last year in China along with its larger sibling, the X20 Plus. The upcoming device is likely to be called the Vivo X21, and what sets this Chinese phone apart from its predecessor is that it will come with a full-screen display, and a notch. Additionally, the X21 is said to feature a fingerprint scanner that’s embedded underneath the display like the one found in the X20 Plus UD, as indicated by some leaked images from Weibo.
Nevertheless, there are some notable similarities between the old and the upcoming phones, including the minimal bezels. It is perhaps worth noting that although the X20 and X20 Plus were Vivo’s “bezel-less” offerings, that does not necessarily mean both devices lack bezels in them. On top of the minimal bezels, the display notch of the X21 is understood to encompass the earpiece, camera and the sensors. While the launch date and some new features were revealed in the Weibo image, all other details remain unknown at the moment as Vivo keeps mum on the matter. Nonetheless, given that the rumored launch date of the X21 is just one week away, if at all, it shouldn’t be too long before the Chinese original equipment manufacturer confirms the specs of the X21, which are expected to pack some major upgrades from its predecessor on the hardware aspect at least, as well as announce a number of other information related to the device such as its features and capabilities.
When it comes to the hardware side, the X21 is supposed to be equipped with a Qualcomm system-on-chip, though there’s no word on whether the device will ship with the Snapdragon 660 SoC that’s powering the X20 and the X20 Plus UD or with a bumped-up processor. Furthermore, the X21 is also believed to feature technologies from a number of tech brands like JBL for the built-in speakers and A-Maps for its mapping solution. On the optics side of things, it is possible that the handset will boast a dual camera setup on the back like the other Vivo devices that came before it including the X20 and X20 Plus.
