Xiaomi is launching a new robot vacuum cleaner under the name of Xiaowa Robotic Cleaner Youth Edition, which is supposed to offer an alternative to prospective customers who may have found the company’s previous products in this category to be too expensive. As a result, the new vacuum cleaner from Xiaomi is launching at 999 yuan, or the equivalent of $157. In contrast, the original Xiaomi Mi Robot Vacuum was priced at $350, whereas the Roborock S50 Robot Vacuum which abandoned the Xiaomi brand while retaining compatibility with the tech giant’s Mi Home platform was released at $500.
The Xiaomi Xiaowa Robotic Cleaner Youth Edition is capable of generating 1600Pa of pressure and takes advantage of a special internal design that allows it to function without generating noise, even when it’s cranked up to the highest setting. The new model also makes use of ten external sensors designed to work together with an adaptive algorithm, which allows the smart vacuum cleaner to map rooms and respond to its environment, all while choosing the best cleaning path possible. The unit is said to be capable of clearing obstacles up to 2cm (0.79 inches) tall, which should give it the ability to easily overcome carpets. Like the company’s previous robot vacuums, the new product can connect to the Xiaomi Mi Home application which allows users to control the device remotely using a smartphone. Dust is collected in a fairly large container with a capacity of 640ml, and the unit is powered by a 2,600mAh battery which should hold enough energy to allow the device to clean a medium-sized room. The new vacuum is programmed to return to its charger automatically once its battery level falls below 30-percent.
Given that the Xiaowa Robotic Cleaner Youth Edition carries a relatively affordable price, Xiaomi might have yet another winner in the smart vacuum segment. At a considerably lower price point compared to the previous models, the latest budget device could convince a lot more prospective customers to give the concept of smart vacuums a try without the fear of overspending on this type of home automation solutions. Its availability details remain undisclosed, though international resellers such as GearBest are likely to offer the device outside of China by spring.
