Xiaomi Mi 7 & Mi MIX 2S To Ship With OLED Displays: Rumor

A new rumor has just surfaced on Weibo (Chinese social network), and it claims that the Xiaomi Mi 7 and Mi MIX 2S will both ship with OLED displays. The source claims that Samsung Display shipped a couple of million OLED panels to Xiaomi thus far, and that number will only increase in the coming months, as per their partnership which was signed last year. The Mi MIX 2S and Mi 7 will probably both ship with OLED panels, but those displays will be different in size, almost certainly.

These two smartphones will launch rather soon one after the other, the Mi MIX 2S is coming on March 27 (official), while the Mi 7 is rumored to launch in June. Having two flagship smartphones with the same display size may not be the best idea, not to mention that the Mi 7’s predecessors were all quite compact. According to the source, Samsung Display shipped mainly 6.01-inch OLED displays to Xiaomi, though, which is probably what we’ll see in the Mi MIX 2S, but the display size of the Mi 7 was not mentioned. It is even possible that the Mi 7 will ship with an IPS LCD panel after all, but we’ll just have to wait and see what will happen. Now, firmware files for both of these devices surfaced quite recently, and thanks to them, we do have some spec info to share with, same goes for some features that the two phones will have.

If those firmware files are to be believed, both the Mi 7 and Mi MIX 2S will be fueled by the same SoC, the Snapdragon 845 64-bit octa-core processor, which was to be expected. Android 8.0 Oreo will come pre-installed on both phones, with Xiaomi’s MIUI 9 skin, while a 3,170mAh non-removable battery was listed for the Mi 7. In addition to that, the Mi 7 is also said to ship with a dual camera setup, IR blaster, and a real-time Bokeh in the camera applications. Dirac’s audio technology will be included in the phone as well, while you can expect to see an 18:9 display here as well. The Mi MIX 2S, on the other hand, will include a 3,400mAh non-removable battery, and a fullHD+ (2160 x 1080) display. Firmware files also revealed that the Mi MIX 2S is code-named ‘polaris’, in case you were wondering.
