The Xiaomi Mi 7 firmware files have just surfaced yet again, and it seems like the Xiaomi Mi 7 will sport a display notch. The Xiaomi Mi 7’s firmware files popped up at the end of last month, and these new files actually reveal some new info, like the notch-related info that we’ve mentioned already. This new info claims that the Mi 7 will also sport an IR camera. The IR Camera references were found in the MIUI Keyguard app, which is an app responsible for the lock screen and all its functionality. IR Camera probably stands for an Infrared Camera sensor, which is also included in the iPhone X, and is one of the sensors necessary for the phone’s Face ID feature to work properly. This could indicate that the Mi 7 will sport a more advanced facial recognition setup as well, much like the iPhone X.
So, the display notch on the Mi 7 could be there to accommodate sensors for facial recognition more than anything else, as was the case with the iPhone X. It is still unknown when will the Mi 7 become a reality, as the Mi MIX 2S will be announced on March 27, so the Mi 7 probably won’t arrive in the next couple of months, as it would be odd to see two flagship-grade smartphones announced in a such a short time span. Anything is possible, though, so we’ll just have to wait and see what will happen. The Mi 7’s initial firmware, which surfaced last month, suggested that the device will sport an OLED display, and an Always On display feature. In addition to that, the Snapdragon 845 64-bit octa-core SoC had also been referenced, and it will definitely fuel the phone, as the company’s exec confirmed that earlier this year. A 3,400mAh non-removable battery will also be included in the package, and chances are that the Mi 7’s display will be smaller than the panel used in the Mi MIX 2S. The Xiaomi Mi MIX 2S will probably ship with a 6.01-inch fullHD+ (2160 x 1080) OLED display, so the Mi 5 may arrive with a 5.5-inch or a 5.7-inch panel.
The Xiaomi Dipper surfaced on Geekbench quite recently, and it seems like that is the Xiaomi Mi 7’s codename. The device that popped up is fueled by the Snapdragon 845, and it comes with 3GB of RAM, while the ‘Dipper’ codename seems to fall in line with codenames for previous ‘Mi X’ smartphones.
