Back in August 2016, Coolpad and LeEco announced the ‘Cool1’ smartphone, and now, a year and a half later, Coolpad has introduced its successor, the Cool 2. Truth be said, we’re not sure if LeEco is involved in this launch or not, as the company is facing some serious financial issues at the moment, but ‘Cool’ is a company founded by both Coolpad and LeEco, so… LeEco is included in this launch one way or the other.
In any case, this smartphone is made out of metal, and it sports two cameras on the back, while the design of its back side reminds us of the Redmi Note 5 Pro quite a bit. Those two cameras are vertically-aligned, and a fingerprint scanner sits on the back of the device as well, while the ‘Cool’ branding is located at the bottom of the phone’s back side. The device’s back is curved a bit, while the phone’s bezels are not exactly razer-thin, but they’re not too thick either, especially considering this is an entry-level smartphone. The device uses on-screen buttons, and its display sports rounded corners. All the physical keys are included on the left-hand side of the phone, while its SIM card tray can be accessed from the right. The Coolpad Cool 2 comes with a 5.7-inch HD+ (1440 x 720) display, while it is fueled by the MediaTek MT6750 64-bit octa-core processor. The phone packs in 4GB of RAM and 64GB of native storage, which you can expand by using a microSD card slot which is also available here. Now, on the back of the phone, you will find 13 and 0.3-megapixel cameras, while a single 8-megapixel camera is included on the phone’s front side.
Android 7.0 Nougat comes pre-installed on the phone, with a custom UI included on top of it, and a 3,200mAh battery is also included here. Interestingly enough, you will not get fast charging here, though that may not even be a surprise for some of you, considering that this is a budget smartphone. The phone comes with a 3.5mm headphone jack, and a microUSB 2.0 port, so a Type-C port is not included here. The phone measures 154.7 x 73.3 x 9mm, in case you were wondering. This phone’s price tag is still unknown, but it is expected to become available in China soon.
