If you own a an entry-level smartphone which has 1GB of RAM on its, or less, well, you may want to try this Android Go-optimized Pixel Launcher. In a sea of launchers available out there, only some are made especially for devices with extremely low levels of RAM, and not-that-powerful processors, well, this is one of them, and it is modeled after the regular Pixel Launcher, which you can find on Google’s handsets, and devices that are a part of Google’s Android One project. This launcher is currently not available for download from the Google Play Store, but you can get it from GitHub if you want. In any case, let’s talk some more about it, shall we.
So, this is essentially a Pixel Launcher, but it has been optimized by a third-party developer for low-RAM devices. The developer says that this launcher always has a 4×4 desktop grid, that is something you cannot alter in settings. In addition to that, widgets are not supported here, as the developer is trying to keep this launcher as light as possible, and including widgets on the homescreen puts strain on both the phone’s SoC and RAM. In comparison to a regular Pixel Launcher, you won’t get Notification Dots either, as that feature has also been disabled by the developer. Aside from, more or less every other feature of the regular Pixel Launcher is still here, including the Google Feed panel, At A Glance widget and icon shape changing option. Now, this launcher also comes with support for third-party icon packs, and that feature is not available in the regular version of the Pixel Launcher.
There are a number of screenshots available in the gallery down below, in case you’d like to check out what this launcher looks like before you download it, though you have a pretty good idea if you’ve used the Pixel Launcher. This launcher uses about third of the RAM compared to the regular Pixel Launcher, according to the source.
