Samsung might be close to launching a new mid-range J series smartphone in India. The support page for a device with model number SM-J720F/DS is now live on Samsung India’s website along with its user manual suggesting the phone’s design and some major features. The Samsung SM-J720F device is speculated to be called Galaxy J7 (2018) but it could carry a different moniker depending on the market it is released in. According to the user manual, the handset will support Bixby Home, making it the first Bixby-enabled Samsung smartphone in the mid-range segment. However, due to the lack of a dedicated physical Bixby button, usually a part of Galaxy flagships, Bixby Voice will not be supported. Having received Wi-Fi certification in March and with the user manual now available on the company’s website, the Galaxy J7 (2018) could be launched anytime soon, with the roll-out possibly starting from India.
Besides this, the user manual also includes a handful of device schematics revealing some pieces of crucial information, like the presence of two rear cameras, again a first for Samsung’s J series. Interestingly, the Galaxy J7 (2018) will include a removable battery, which also means a polycarbonate-based build instead of metal. From the front, Samsung doesn’t seem to have made a radical change with the device looking exactly like the previous generations. The phone seemingly uses a conventional 16:9 display with a physical home button doubling as fingerprint scanner placed below it with capacitive navigation keys on its either side. The front camera will also be paired with an LED flash, while the device will retain the 3.5mm headphone jack.
According to the previously leaked information, the Samsung SM-J720F is expected to sport a 5.5-inch display with a 720p resolution in 16:9 aspect ratio. It will be powered by an octa-core Exynos 7885 processor and Mali-G71 GPU paired with 4GB of RAM and 32GB of expandable flash memory. The dual-SIM capable device will support 4G VoLTE and will come running Android 8.0 Oreo out of the box. It is expected to sport a 13-megapixel camera on the back along with a secondary camera of an unknown variety, while there will be an 8-megapixel camera on the front. The Galaxy J7 (2018) had appeared on a couple of benchmarking websites in January with a similar set of specifications.
