If you’re editing videos on your Android smartphone, you’ll be glad to know that Google is now rolling out a new update to its Google Photos app, and this update focuses on video editing. This new update will not only change the UI of Google Photos’ video editor, but it will also add some new options to it, that will make it far more useful for those of you who like to edit videos on Android.
This new UI and options are centered around the concept of editing multiple clips simultaneously, though the design is now simpler than it was before, which is a good thing. Do keep in mind that this new layout is here only for creators, if you’d like to edit regular video clips, you’ll be reverted back to the old design, which will offer some basic options. When you enter this new editor, Google will let you know that “Themes are no longer supported”, and that “you’ll lose any effects you may have”. This was a necessary step, it seems, for Google to implement these new tools and UI, as you will be automatically switched to a new white theme. In the new editor, your active frame is located at the top, while your movie clips are separate into a couple of components which should make it easier for you to edit them all at once. This new UI can actually be rather useful for both short and long video clips.
Now, you will notice that there’s an overflow icon next to each section, which will allow you to show the entire video and choose the right scene. In this new editor, you can also mute audio, duplicate clips, move them up / down, you can insert new clips, and so on. You can edit audio via this editor as well, either pre-selected Theme music, or your own audio files, it’s up to you. Do keep in mind that this update is currently rolling out to the Google Photos app, but it may not be available to all of you this very moment, as this is a staged rollout, as per usual.
