Google Search in India has expanded its scope to include job listings from a number of local job portals. A section dedicated to jobs will now appear in the search results of related queries across all platforms Google Search works on, including Search apps for Android and iOS, as well as the actual website. At a recent event in Delhi, Google announced it partnered with dedicated job search engines like Aasaanjobs, LinkedIn, Freshersworld, Headhonchos, and IBM Talent Management Solutions on the initiative. Google Search will aggregate and display all relevant job listings from these organizations to provide job seekers with easier access to such postings without having to visit each website separately. Using its powerful search tool, Google will be able to provide fitting job postings for queries as generic as “jobs near me” and “jobs for freshers,” the company said.
With all of its new partners combined, the tech giant has access to over ninety thousand employers in India who currently have over a million job postings. Google has opened its job search platform for all companies, big or small, in the country, ensuring a continuous flow of new listings accessible via Google Search. Job seekers can save listings for later evaluation using the included option and can even enable alerts to get an email update whenever a new relevant job is posted on any of the supported portals. A basic set of information about the job is provided within the search results and clicking on each opens a new window showing detailed information about the selected posting. Numerous filters have also been provided to help users narrow down their search queries and show only the most apposite results. Google vowed to improve the search experience by including more filters and job details in the future, if required.
The company saw a 45-percent surge in job search queries in Q4 2017 and expects the online job market in India to grow significantly over the coming years. The feature was first introduced at Google I/O 2017 but hasn’t made its way to the South Asian country until now. Presently, Google won’t let users apply for jobs from search results but will redirect them to websites of participating platforms in order to have them complete the process.
