The highly anticipated LG G7 ThinQ meant to replace last year’s LG G6, together with the LG Q7 expected to tackle the mid-range market this year have apparently been approved by the Eurasian Economic Commission in Russia earlier this month, technically signaling that their eventual market debut is closing in. Two model numbers pertaining to the LG Q7 were discovered in the applications, namely LG LM-Q710ZMW and LG LM-Q710ZAW, while the LG G7 ThinQ was identified by the model number LG LM-G710V. And although the applications don’t shed any more light on the hardware, they reveal that both smartphone models have been approved in Russia while they were running Android 8.1.0 Oreo.
The software will most likely be covered by LG’s proprietary firmware, especially given that the LG G7 ‘ThinQ’ is expected to employ the OEM’s new smart platform bearing the same name. LG ThinQ was introduced earlier this year and employed by the LG V30S ThinQ, however, the platform is not limited to the OEM’s smartphones and instead it’s meant to unify LG’s various smart products – ranging from Android handsets to smart home appliances – under a single platform adopting artificial intelligence. In contrast, the LG Q7 doesn’t seem to have received the ThinQ treatment, though this is somewhat expected given the market segment to which it’s supposed to belong. Much like the LG Q6 before it, the Q7 will most likely attempt to combine higher-end characteristics with mid-range components, whereas the LG G7 ThinQ is expected to become the OEM’s new flagship, possibly for the remainder of 2018, depending on whether or not the V series will receive a new sequel later in the second half of the year.
The LG G7 ThinQ was seen in a leaked render earlier this month seemingly confirming the exterior design and a range of colors including Aurora Black, Platinum Grey, two shades of Moroccan Blue (glossy and matte) as well as Raspberry Rose. According to preliminary reports, the device should feature a 6-inch display with an elongated image format, a Snapdragon 845 chipset from Qualcomm, and a dual main camera setup. Meanwhile, there’s not a lot of hardware information to go by regarding the LG Q7, though the device is also likely to make use of a taller display with relatively thin bezels.
