The Meizu 15 Plus continues to reach the headlines in anticipation of an imminent official announcement, and after the device passed through AnTuTu earlier this week, more recently it paid a visit to another benchmarking tool – Geekbench – where it was spotted running Android 7.0 Nougat while rocking 6GB of RAM, same as before. The chipset’s brand hasn’t been confirmed though, as the motherboard is listed under the ‘15 Plus’ moniker, however, the SoC follows the ARMv8 instruction set much like the Exynos 8895 silicon which was previously hinted at by AnTuTu.
Geekbench further confirms that the chipset will have eight CPU cores with a base frequency set at 1.69GHz. Likewise, the Exynos 8895 is equipped with four Exynos M2 custom cores operating at a frequency of 2.3GHz, along with four additional ARM Cortex-A53 cores clocked at 1.69GHz. Having said that, Geekbench appears to list only the frequency of the Cortex-based half of the SoC, which is being used in this case for handling less demanding tasks in a more energy-efficient manner. And while this bit of information goes by unmentioned by Geekbench, the Exynos 8895 should also feature a Mali-G71 MP20 (20-core) graphics processor. Other details worth mentioning include Android 7.0 Nougat operating system which will likely be covered by the proprietary Flyme firmware, and finally given these characteristics, the Meizu 15 Plus appears to yield around 1900 and 6500 points in Geekbench’s single-core and multi-core synthetic tests, respectively.
The Meizu 15 Plus is expected to be officially announced by the Chinese OEM in just a couple of days from the time of this writing, along with two other models known as the Meizu 15 and Meizu 15 Lite, though according to some reports the latter could be introduced as the Meizu M15. Either way, the smartphone trio is meant to commemorate Meizu’s 15 year anniversary and given the naming schemes, the Plus model appears to sit at the top of the range. The handset is also expected to feature two main cameras aligned vertically on the back panel, including a 20 and 12-megapixel unit, as well as a 20-megapixel front-facing sensor for selfie enthusiasts. The series is rumored to hit the shelves before the end of the month, one week following their official introduction.
