Meizu has finally launched its PRO 7 handset in India at a price of Rs. 22,999 ($354). It is one of the first Android-powered smartphones to feature a secondary display; besides a regular screen on the front, the Meizu PRO 7 has a smaller 1.9-inch Super AMOLED panel on its back, offering a resolution of 536 x 240 pixels with a density of 307 PPI. At its initial announcement last year, Meizu unveiled the PRO 7 Plus as well, but only the PRO 7 has been brought to India as an Amazon-exclusive device. It is already available for purchase from Amazon.in at the aforementioned price and is only offered in black, with Meizu claiming its initial stock is relatively “limited.”
The handset bears a conventional design with a 16:9 display on the front. It uses a 5.2-inch Super AMOLED panel that comes with a resolution of 1,920 x 1,080 pixels and is sandwiched between normal-sized bezels both on the top and bottom, with its physical Home button doubling as a fingerprint reader. The top left portion of its rear panel is occupied by two cameras and a secondary display. Both cameras sport 12-megapixel sensors, one of which is of the monochrome variety, i.e. only captures black-and-white shots. Meizu used Sony’s IMX386 sensors and f/2.0 lenses, with its imaging setup supporting PDAF and having a standard 1.25μm pixel size. The front-facing camera is a 16-megapixel affair and uses another f/2.0 lens. The device comes powered by an octa-core MediaTek Helio P25 processor clocked at 2.5GHz which features the Mali-T880 GPU and is paired by 4GB of RAM, as well as 64GB of internal storage. The PRO 7 also includes a dedicated audio processing chip Cirrus Logic CS43130 Smart PA, USB Type-C port, and a 3,000mAh battery, in addition to running Android 7.0 Nougat-based Flyme OS 6 out of the box.
Originally announced last July, the Meizu PRO 7 has been confirmed as coming to India in November. It’s presently unclear why Meizu took so long to bring the handset to the country and its larger counterpart isn’t expected to debut in India going forward.
