Meizu has just announced that a new version of its Android UI will be announced on April 22, along with the company’s upcoming Meizu 15 smartphones. The company is expected to announce the Meizu 15, 15 Plus and 15 Lite on April 22, at a press event in China. The Meizu 15 Plus is expected to become the company’s all-new flagship, while both the Meizu 15 and 15 Lite will be inferior to that handset.
That being said, Meizu currently installs Flyme 6 on its devices, and all three Meizu 15-branded devices will include Flyme 7 it seems, as it will be announced along with those three phones. Meizu has announced this news via its official ‘Flyme’ Twitter handle, along with sharing an image to go with the announcement, but that image is really not saying much, as it is showing a bridge, lake, and a bunch of houses. Meizu did not share a single new feature that will be coming along with Flyme 7, so we really do not know what to expect at this point. It is worth pointing out that Flyme OS is somewhat different than stock Android, and it does take getting used to, even though it’s generally quite intuitive. The whole navigation system is different in Flyme, and that is probably the major difference between it and stock Android, even though Flyme OS does not come with an app drawer, and the whole UI looks noticeably different compared to stock Android. Along with new features, you can also expect to see a redesigned UI in Flyme 7, at least slightly redesigned.
All three Meizu 15 devices got certified by TENAA (China’s equivalent to the FCC) a while back, and it seems like those will not be the ‘bezel-less’ devices that some users were expecting. All three devices look more or less the same, at least on the front, and they do have quite a bit of bezel above and below the display. A physical key sits below the display of all three devices, which is quite odd considering that Meizu is making a switch to a virtual multi-purpose button called the ‘Halo’ button. It is possible that those images were not legit, though, so we’ll just have to wait and see what will Meizu announce on April 22.
