Meizu's New Smartphone Design Patent Resembles The Galaxy S9

It seems like Meizu has been awarded a new patent, and this patent is smartphone related. This news comes from China, from one of the Chinese news outlets, in fact. Now, based on the appearance of the device, it’s hard not to say that this design is inspired by the Galaxy S8’s and Galaxy S9’s design, at least when you look at it from the front. Bezels on the top and bottom are really thin, and side bezels are almost non-existent. A front-facing camera is included on the right side of the phone’s earpiece, and this phone’s display features rounded corners.

Now, if you take a look at a sketch of this phone from either its left or right sides, you will notice that the display is curved, and its back side as well, just like on the Galaxy S9. The phone’s dual camera setup on the back protrudes, it is not flush with the phone’s back side, and Meizu’s ring flash will sit below those two cameras it seems. A fingerprint scanner is nowhere to be found, unless that ring flash-looking cutout is a fingerprint scanner, and a regular flash sits above the two cameras, but that’s not that likely. It is, however, possible that Meizu plans to include an in-display fingerprint scanner in this smartphone, which is why we can’t see its fingerprint scanner on these sketches. The power / lock button will be located on the right-hand side of the phone, right below a SIM card tray. The volume up and down buttons will sit on the left side of the phone, while we still do not know what will this phone be called (the Meizu 16 naming is a possibility, though), nor whether Meizu plans to announce it at all.

Meizu had introduced the Meizu 15, 15 Lite and 15 Plus handsets a couple of days ago, though the company’s exec did confirm a while back that Meizu plans to introduce its ‘bezel-less’ handset later this year, so the device that you can check out in the gallery down below may be the phone Meizu is planning to launch before the end of the year. That handset will almost certainly ship with high-end specs, and it will probably ship with either Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 845 SoC, or Samsung’s Exynos 9810 processor.
