Motorola has introduced a new Mod for its Moto Z series called the Moto Stereo Speaker, and as the moniker suggests, this latest addition to the list of Moto accessories aims to improve one’s audio experience. The product carries a lower price tag compared to the other two existing solutions manufactured in conjunction with JBL, and similarly to the JBL Soundboost series, the latest Moto Stereo Speaker Mod comes with its own kickstand and snaps onto the back of compatible Motorola smartphones without the need for wireless pairing or additional cables.
However, unlike the JBL Soundboost lineup, the Moto Stereo Speaker Mod doesn’t include a battery of its own and instead relies on a connected smartphone’s own cell. An advantage to this approach is that users won’t have to worry about their Mod’s battery status and won’t be required to recharge the unit regularly, but on the other hand, the lack of a dedicated battery will inevitably translate into a shorter battery life for the connected smartphone. As far as specifications go, the Moto Stereo Speaker Mod has two audio drivers measuring 28mm each, and the units can deliver 80 decibels at a distance of 50cm (1.64 feet), according to the manufacturer. The gadget measures 153 x 73 x 15mm in size, weighs 102 grams, and is available in three color options – black, blue, and red. Its circular kickstand should be handy for avoiding muffling the sound when the phone is placed face-up on a table or other surfaces, and the Mod not only offers better audio quality for music enthusiasts but can also be used as a hands-free speakerphone for phone calls.
The Moto Stereo Speaker Mod is currently available for purchase for the price of $59.99. In contrast, the JBL Soundboost and Soundboost 2 are usually priced at $79.99 each; however, it’s worth noting that at the time of this writing, Motorola has an offer running through April 28 that allows prospective buyers to save 25-percent on select Moto Mods, including JBL’s solutions. The offer doesn’t apply to the latest Moto Stereo Speaker Mod, so all three presently share the same price tag.
