HMD Global is preparing for the introduction of a new Android mid-ranger called the Nokia X6, according to recent reports from China. It’s presently unclear whether the handset is planned to eventually be launched on a global level, but its debut in the Far Eastern country has already been teased in recent days, with some previously sighted promotional materials hinting at the revival of the Nokia X family, though without explicitly mentioning the X6 moniker.
The upcoming series is said to consist of two models identified as the TA-1099 and TA-1109, with both of them recently receiving 3C certification in China, usually the last step a smartphone manufacturer has to take before being able to commercialize a new product in the country. While initial speculation surrounding the new mobile offerings pointed to entry-level handsets in the vein of the 2014 Nokia X, one of the rare few Android-powered smartphones released by Microsoft, more recent reports suggest the handset in question will be meant to compete in the upper mid-range segment of the market, with its best variant featuring Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 636 chip and 6GB of RAM. The more affordable model is still said to be shipping with 4GB of RAM and MediaTek’s P60 silicon, whereas both should boast a 5.8-inch display panel with a 19:9 aspect ratio, with that image format being indicative of a notch being present.
The Nokia X6 is also said to be sporting a dual-camera setup with Carl Zeiss-made lenses, Android 8.0 Oreo, and a largely bezel-free design. The offering should hence be positioned between the Nokia 6 (2018) and Nokia 7 Plus in terms of raw hardware power, presumably with a price tag that’s indicative of those capabilities, i.e. hovers around the equivalent of $280. As evidenced by the original Nokia 7 debuted last year, not every Android-powered Nokia handset launched in China makes its way to the global market, though most still do and even those that end up being exclusive to the country are usually revamped before being introduced internationally, with the Nokia 7 Plus being the most recent example of such a global revision from HMD Global.
