The Poin2 Chromebook 14 can now be purchased by interested consumers in the United States. Before the device was launched, this product was previously known through its codename “Birch”. This Chromebook is powered by the MT8173 chipset from the Taiwanese semiconductor firm MediaTek. The MT8173 chipset is the same system board found in the Acer Chromebook R13. This SoC offers around 20 to 25 percent increase in performance compared to the Celeron N3160 chipset from Intel and it is comprised of a quad-core 64-bit CPU running at a maximum clock speed of 2GHz and the IMG PowerVR GX6250 GPU. The device includes 4GB of LPDDR3 RAM and 32GB of onboard eMMC storage. The Poin2 Chromebook 14 also sports a 14-inch IPS LCD display with a resolution of 1920 by 1080 pixels and a touchscreen. Moreover, since the device includes a 180° hinge, users can lay the Chromebook’s display flat on a surface.
The listing of the device on the website of the online retailer Amazon mentioned that the device supports 802.11ac Wi-Fi and Bluetooth 4.0. The Poin2 Chromebook 14 also sports a number of ports including one USB Type-C port, one USB 3.0 Type-A port, a 3.5mm headphone jack, and a full-size HDMI port. The device maker further mentioned that the product’s USB Type-C port offers charging, data transfer, and audio. In addition, the device contains an SD card reader and a Kensington lock for securing the device. The Poin2 Chromebook 14 also comes with two 2-Watt stereo speakers and a 1-megapixel web camera. To keep its lights on, the product includes a 47Wh battery, which the manufacturer claims should provide up to 12 hours of battery life. The device weighs 1.69kg and it has a length of 342 millimeters, a width of 240 millimeters, and a thickness of 18.4 millimeters. The product also comes with a 45Wh adapter, and it is available in Gun Metal color option.
Software-wise, the Poin2 Chromebook 14 supports Android applications out-of-the-box. Interested consumers may buy the device from the online retailer Amazon for a little more than $300, while Staples is also offering the device on its website for $299. Aside from the Chromebook 14, Poin2 has also recently released the Chromebook 11C in the United States.
