The Black Shark gaming smartphone will be announced on April 13, the company announced recently, and it seems like the recently-leaked renders are completely fake (pictured below the article). Wu Shimin, Black Shark’s CEO, confirmed this via Twitter by saying that the leaked phone is ‘ugly’, and that the renders are fake. Mr. Shimin also says that Black Shark’s upcoming smartphone sports a much nicer design than the device that leaked. Having said that, the leaked device actually looks more like a gaming console than a smartphone, so the fact that those renders are fake is not exactly surprising, even though the leak itself looked somewhat real.
Xiaomi confirmed its investment in Black Shark, but it is still unclear whether the upcoming gaming handset will carry Xiaomi’s branding or not. Black Shark had confirmed recently that the phone will be fueled by the Snapdragon 845, but other than that, and its release date, the company did not release any additional info about the device. Black Shark did partner up with JD.com, one of China’s largest retailers, quite recently, so it is quite possible that the phone will be sold via JD.com’s website. The device got benchmarked by AnTuTu quite recently, though, and that listing revealed some additional spec details about the phone. If AnTuTu’s listing is to be believed, the Black Shark handset will ship with a fullHD+ (2160 x 1080) display, though we still do not know what size will that display be. Considering this is a gaming smartphone, Black Shark will probably include a rather large display, a 6-inch panel, perhaps.
AnTuTu also reported that the phone will include 8GB of RAM and 32GB of native storage, though it is possible that Black Shark may introduce a 6GB RAM variant of the phone as well, even though that model did not surface just yet. Android 8.0 Oreo will come pre-installed on the phone, says AnTuTu, though we’re still not sure whether MIUI will be installed on top of it, or will Black Shark include its own overlay on top of stock Android. The device managed to score 270,680 points on AnTuTu, which is an impressive score. We are about a week away from the launch event, and chances are that more info will surface before April 13, so stay tuned for that.
