Samsung‘s upcoming Galaxy A6 Plus (2018) mid-ranger is reportedly set to be equipped with an Infinity Display, as indicated by a recent benchmark listing discovered in the database of benchmark tool HTML5test. The device running Android 8.0 Oreo and bearing the model number SM-A605FN apparently won’t ship with two curved edges, unlike high-end Galaxy devices with Samsung’s 18.5:9 screen.
The Infinity Display is a Super AMOLED panel with an elongated aspect ratio that’s one of the tallest in the industry. The solution first debuted with the Galaxy S8 lineup before it was introduced to the Galaxy Note 8 and later to the Galaxy A8 (2018) series of upper mid-range devices unveiled last December. The addition of an Infinity Display to the Galaxy A8 (2018) lineup signaled the start of Samsung’s move to equip its mid-rangers with this type of a panel, so the Galaxy A6 Plus (2018) being next in line to receive it would be in line with such a strategy of trickling tech innovations down. Last summer, it was already reported that Samsung was planning to add the Infinity Display to the Galaxy A (2018) series as part of an effort to expand the bezel-less design language to its mid-range offerings.
A number of Samsung’s representatives previously indicated that the Seoul-based consumer electronics company had been planning to put a larger focus on setting its mid-range and entry-level offerings apart from the competition. With that in mind, the latest development could be in line with Samsung’s latest product strategy, especially as the Galaxy A6 (2018) lineup is nearing its debut. Earlier this month, one alleged model of the Galaxy A6 Plus (2018) obtained certification from the United States Federal Communications Commission after its smaller sibling, the Galaxy A6, also received the same certification from the agency. Likewise, both devices were listed by Geekbench last month and are rumored to be announced by the end of spring.
