A photo seemingly depicting the batteries supposed to power the upcoming Samsung Galaxy J8 (2018) and Galaxy J8 Plus (2018) emerged online recently, suggesting that the former model will employ a 3,000mAh unit, while the latter will make use of a larger 3,500mAh battery. On the most part, the battery information revealed by the leaked image completes the hardware puzzle of the upcoming smartphone series, as most other specifications were previously revealed by benchmarks and other sources. According to those earlier leaks, the two phones should be identified by the model numbers SM-J800 and SM-J805, and these same model numbers can be seen labeled on their corresponding batteries in the leaked image at hand.
Although the exterior design of the Samsung Galaxy J8 (2018) and J8 Plus (2018) remains unknown as of this writing, judging by the leaked photo, it’s safe to say that both smartphone models should have an enclosed case with a non-removable battery, though time will tell whether it will take the form of a unibody or a glass sandwich design. Either way, both smartphone models are new additions to the Samsung Galaxy J series as they will be the first to bear the J8 moniker, but the new series will presumably succeed the Samsung Galaxy J7 (2017) lineup. As a point of reference, the older model employed a 3,600mAh battery similar to the 3,500mAh unit that will supposedly power the Galaxy J8 Plus (2018), but on the other hand, the standard Galaxy J8 (2018) appears to have the same battery capacity as the Galaxy J5 (2017) which is supposed to fit in the entry-level market segment. Previous benchmark results suggested the two smartphone models might also end up sharing the same Exynos 7870 SoC developed in-house by Samsung‘s mobile silicon division.
Availability details for the Samsung Galaxy J8 (2018) series are unknown but it’s worth noting that the standard model was seemingly approved by the Wi-Fi Alliance a couple of weeks ago, signaling that the smartphone’s release may be fairly close. Assuming that the upcoming series will follow the existing Galaxy J7 (2017) a year after its debut, the new models should be introduced this June and hit the store shelves by July.
