According to a couple of recent rumors passed along via Twitter by industry watchers from China, the upcoming Samsung Galaxy Note 9 will be equipped with a 6.4-inch display and feature either a 3,850mAh or 4,000mAh battery. This isn’t the first time a rumor pertaining to the upcoming flagship’s battery capacity emerged as one of the same sources going by the Twitter handle “Ice Universe” previously hinted at a 3,850mAh unit, but according to new rumors, the handset could reportedly feature a slightly larger battery instead.
As for the 6.4-inch display, Samsung historically pushed the boundaries of the Galaxy Note series’ screen real estate with each new generation or at least retained the size of the previous model, but the OEM has never decreased the screen diagonal of its lineup over its entire lifespan. The original Galaxy Note featured a 5.3-inch panel, and the second model was equipped with a 5.5-inch display. Samsung then settled for a 5.7-inch diagonal for four generations in a row before launching the Galaxy Note 8 with a larger 6.3-inch panel but one that used the 18:5:9 form factor. Having said that, it’s somewhat expected for the Korean OEM to at least retain the 6.3-inch diagonal for the upcoming Galaxy Note 9, together with the 2,960 x 1,440 pixel count and the same elongated aspect ratio.
As for the flagship’s alleged design, previous rumors indicated the Galaxy Note 9 might do away with the rear-fitted fingerprint reader and instead hide such a sensor behind its AMOLED display. However, other rumors suggest that Samsung might reserve this technology for its tenth Galaxy S model which should be introduced early next year. The Samsung Galaxy Note 9 will likely follow a yearly launch schedule, meaning that it’s expected to be unveiled in August, around the time Berlin-based IFA trade show takes place, and will presumably begin retailing by mid-September.
