Shortly after Samsung launched its most recent software update for the Gear S2 smartwatch, the Korean OEM is now rolling out a new, similar update for two of its wristbands – the Gear Fit2 and Gear Fit2 Pro. The software update for the wearable duo focuses on improving and adding new fitness-related functionalities, including new widgets and the ability to sync the new Weight Management and Fitness Program features with a connected smartphone’s Health application.
Specifically, the new Weight Management feature can now make it easier for users to track their fitness goals and progress from their connected phones via the Samsung Health app, while the Fitness Program functionality gives users the ability to sync either one of the wristbands to a TV via a smartphone in order to view fitness-related video content on the big screen. In addition, the latest software update introduces a new widget called Multi-workout, which was also present in the software update launched last month for the Gear S2 smartwatch. The Multi-workout widget offers users the option of adding their favorite exercises as presets for faster access. Then there is the Health Summary widget which can now display a user’s total exercise history for the day, and finally, the Workout Screen has been revamped in order to offer a more streamlined interface and at-glance information about various workouts. Specifically, it can now be customized with different workout data types – up to a maximum of three at a time – and users have the ability to choose between information such as heart rate, calories burned, distance traveled, and exercise duration.
While the Samsung Gear Fit2 and Gear Fit2 Pro are set apart by one year of market availability, with the former being introduced in mid-2016 and the latter at IFA 2017, the latest software at hand seems to be identical and introduces the same new functionalities to both wearables. As usual, the update is being distributed gradually and should be available for download through the Samsung Gear smartphone application while your handset is connected to either wearable.
