The Samsung Gear IconX (2018) wireless earbuds are now receiving a brand new software update designed to improve the listening experience offered to users, all while streamlining the process of transferring music files to the headphones’ built-in storage without needing external cables. The new features added with the latest update can be broken down into three main categories which include a new equalizer, additional noise cancelation tools, and a new Wireless Transfer feature.
Samsung launched the Gear IconX (2018) last October as a direct sequel to the original Gear IconX model released a year earlier. Its main goal was to refine the overall design, improve battery life, and offer a better experience for users employing an active lifestyle. The product previously received a firmware update shortly after release in a quest to improve Bluetooth stability, and now the latest software update at hand aims to further improve the user experience by adding quality of life features and new tools for transferring and listening to music or surroundings. To begin with, the latest update introduces a new Equalizer feature which allows users to choose between five existing presets – Bass Boost, Dynamic, Soft, Clear, and Treble Boost, as seen in the screenshot below. And while the update aims to improve the listening experience, it also tries to simplify the transfer process of audio files to the earbuds’ 4GB of built-in memory through the inclusion of a new Wireless Transfer tool, which gives users the ability to modify their audio library wirelessly directly from a connected smartphone without needing a physical connection.
Finally, the existing Ambient Sound feature which offered little control and could only be enabled or disabled has now been further enhanced to give users the ability to set different levels of noise cancellation in a more granular manner. Furthermore, a new feature called Voice Focus was also added primarily for situations when the earbuds are being used indoors, giving users the ability to amplify the volume of voices around them while listening to their music at the gym. As usual, the latest software update for the Gear IconX (2018) is available for download through the dedicated Samsung Gear smartphone application and should be applied while the earbuds are fully charged.
