The Xiaomi Mi 6X was announced last week, and that handset will be rebranded to the Mi A2 Android One handset, but it seems like the Mi A2 will not be the only Android One smartphone that Xiaomi will announce this year. It was confirmed (by Lei Jun) last week that Xiaomi plans to work on more Android One phones, aside from the Mi A2, and a new piece of info that just surfaced more or less confirms it.
XDA Developers have managed to get ahold of a firmware which points to a launch of the Mi A2, a firmware called ‘jasmine_sprout’, which more or less confirms that the Mi A2 is coming with Mi 6X’s spec sheet. Along with that, however, a second firmware was spotted, a firmware called ‘daisy_sprout’, which seems to belong to a second Xiaomi-branded Android One handset. This firmware reports that the company’s other Android One handset will be fueled by the Snapdragon 625 64-bit octa-core processor, which means it will sport the same SoC as the Mi A1 which was announced last year. Now, this could mean that one of the company’s Redmi-branded smartphones could end up being rebranded into an Android One phone, just like the Mi 6X. The Xiaomi Redmi S2 is right around the corner, and that phone is expected to ship with the Snapdragon 625, so it is possible that the Redmi S2 will become an Android One smartphone as well later this year, but we’re only guessing at this point.
The Xiaomi Mi A2 is expected to become official in the coming weeks, and it will sport the same exact design as the Mi 6X, the only difference between the two phones will lie in software, as the Mi 6X ships with Xiaomi’s MIUI OS, while the Mi A2 will include stock Android. The Mi A1 is extremely affordable at the moment, and it was affordable since it launched, so the same will probably happen with the Mi A2. Having that in mind, the second Android One phone will probably be even more affordable, due to an inferior SoC that will fuel it. That is more or less it, all we can do at this point is wait for Xiaomi to release some official info regarding its Android One smartphones.
