According to Xiaomi’s CEO, Lei Jun, the Xiaomi Mi A2 may become available in India later this year, but the Mi MIX 2S may never arrive to the country. The company’s CEO basically said that the Mi MIX 2 was not the best fit for the Indian smartphone market, and considering that the Mi MIX 2S sports an almost identical design, and the fact that it’s basically an incremental upgrade (even though it’s a noticeably better device overall) to the phone, the Mi MIX 2S is probably not the best fit for India either. By stating that, and flat out saying that the company currently has no plans to release the Mi MIX 2S in India, Lei Jun more or less confirmed that the Mi MIX 2S will not be coming to the country, unless something drastically changes from this point on, and manages to change Lei Jun’s opinion.
Lei Jun also added that the company is not trying to release every product in India, but is carefully selecting which products will it push to the Indian smartphone market, as the company is trying to make everything they release in India a big hit. In addition to talking about the Mi MIX 2S, the company’s CEO also referred to the company’s upcoming Android One smartphone(s). Lei Jun said that the company is planning to bring more Android One smartphones to India, because quite a few consumers in India prefer stock Android, there’s interest for it, so it makes sense. Lei Jun did not mention the Xiaomi Mi A2 in specific, but that’s the only upcoming, Xiaomi-branded Android One handset that the public is currently aware of, so the Mi A2 will almost certainly make its way to India at some point.
Having said that, the Mi A2 will probably sport the same design as the Mi 6X which is expected to launch tomorrow, as that was the case with the Mi A1 and Mi 5X last year. We already know what will the Mi 6X look like, as the company confirmed its design via official renders the other day, and that basically confirms the design of the Mi A2 as well, unless Xiaomi opts to release a brand new design of the Mi A2, which is still a possibility. The Mi 6X / Mi A2 will be made out of metal, two cameras will be included on the back of the two phones, while a rear-facing fingerprint scanner will also be a part of the package. The Mi A2 will probably be announced weeks after the Mi 6X, but we’ll have to wait and see what will happen.
