A China-based analyst reported a couple of days ago that the Xiaomi Mi Pad 4 is coming, and XDA Developers have now managed to get ahold of a leaked Mi Pad 4 firmware. Before we start talking about the Mi Pad 4, it is worth saying that Pan Jiutang, the aforementioned analyst, said that the Mi Pad 4 is in an R&D (Research and Development) stage now, which probably means it won’t launch as you think. It is also worth noting that the Mi Pad 3 launched back in April last year, and considering that the Mi Pad 4 is not exactly that close to release, it may arrive later this year, which means that we may be looking at a 1.5-year gap between two launches, which was the gap between the Mi Pad 2 and Mi Pad 3 launches as well, so that’s not all that surprising.
Having said that, the leaked firmware files claim that the Mi Pad 4 will be fueled by the Snapdragon 660 64-bit octa-core SoC, Qualcomm mid-range processor which has been in rather high demand for months now. Now, thanks to those leaked firmware files, the source also managed to find out that the tablet will probably ship with a display which will sport an 18:9 aspect ratio. The device will almost certainly sport an LCD display, not an OLED one, and the aforementioned Snapdragon 660 processor will run at 2.0GHz. Now, those leaked files also say that the tablet will feature a 13-megapixel camera on the back, and we’re looking at OmniVision’s OV13855 sensor here, with a f/2.0 aperture lens. A 5-megapixel camera (Samsung’s S5K5E8 sensor) will be included on the device’s front side with a f/2.0 aperture lens. The Mi Pad 4 will not support 4K recording, which is not that surprising, but it will ship with Portrait Mode support.
The Mi Pad 4 will not include an NFC chip, and it will ship with a 6,000mAh battery (capacity) if the leaked firmware is to be believed, and that battery will almost certainly not be removable. Android 8.1 Oreo will come pre-installed on the device, while Xiaomi’s MIUI 9 skin will be included on top of it. Having said that, the company’s CEO, Lei Jun, did confirm a while back that the company is working on a new tablet, even though he did not specifically mention the Mi Pad 4. The Mi Pad 4 seems to be on the way, and judging by everything we’ve seen, it will be announced by the end of the year, and now we also know some of its specs, presuming that the leaked info is accurate, of course.
