Android P is adding a disable toggle for Work Mode on smartphones that have the software installed. For business users who have devices that run on Android for Work this is going to make things a whole lot easier to manage, meaning it’ll be simple to go from work-related apps and features to the apps and features that one uses on a personal device, then back again when you need to get some work done. This is just one of a more than a few improvements that Google is making to the Android software with version P for business users, all of which will be available as part of the full rollout of Android P later this year and as part of the Android P beta program.
To access this toggle all users will have to do is direct their gaze to the app drawer, as the toggle will be situated at the very bottom of it but just above the gesture button in the navigation bar. Personal and Work modes will also be separated into their own tabs so switching between them will be quick and easy, but if you’re already in a particular app that you want to use for both modes, developers will have the option in Android P to enable even easier switching.
With Android P Google is making it possible for developers to add a toggle within the actual app to switch to a Work mode of it and alleviate the requirement of going back into the app drawer so users can hop over to Work mode before opening the app. This will make things even more convenient, allowing for better efficiency and more productivity. For those that are running on the Android P beta, it’s already possible to check this out in Google Tasks, and Google says more app support is on the way as developers begin work on adding the capability. Lastly, Google is also adding support for multiple apps in kiosk mode and making a few improvements to the security-side of things, like adding additional policies and the ability for IT admins to require a unique IN and timeout rule for both Personal and Work modes.
