Google Assistant finally books movie tickets for you after an update to the service was pushed out to it by Google back on May 4. If you activate Google Assistant on your phone or on Google Home speakers like the Google Home Mini, you can make the entire booking process happen with just your voice, as Google Assistant was intended to work this way. That said you can interact with the device display while talking with Google Assistant about the tickets as well, and in certain situations you’ll end up having to do this anyway, like when you try to book tickets for a theater showing that has reserved seating as you’ll be re-directed to the Fandango website (probably the app too) to pick your seats.
Booking movie tickets has been a feature that some have been looking forward to for some time. Back when Google showed off Assistant for the first time during one of its developer conferences, it demoed the possibility to book flights and other reservations just by talking to it. Now that it’s finally capable of booking movie tickets Assistant is that much more useful to anyone who has the necessary hardware to get things going.
If you’re someone who likes to see things visually before you make a purchase, you can check out the displayed movie times as they pop up on your smartphone display and tap on the times you want tickets for as Google will list them all after you ask about tickets. It’s worth noting that tickets are purchased through Fandango as the feature was set up through Google’s partnership with the company, so if you tend to purchase your movie tickets through another third-party, such as Atom tickets, then you’ll still have to use that app or website to get what you’re looking for. You can purchase tickets for movies that are already showing, or you can purchase tickets for upcoming films.
